Chicago to Los Angeles or bust. On June 30th, 2014, I will begin this cross country road trip with 2 people whom I think are probably crazy. My 15 year old nephew Erick and my long time friend Dom. Maybe these guys are not crazy, but they either don't know what they are getting themselves into or don't care - I guess the idea of wide open stretches of cracked and pot holed asphalt supersedes any idea of self preservation. Perhaps they are a bit crazy, as am I. We are taking this journey in a 1964 Buick Riviera.
Yes, a 50 year old car, with a 50 year old chassis, and 50 year old bucket seats. The car is not at 100% mechanically, but seems solid enough. I am packing lots of tools, a few spare parts and lots of hope. This American Main Street is begging for us to get out there and see her, I am scared, but excited to take the trip. I may get some small insight as to what it might have been to travel this road before the drab, sterile interstates began to dominate in the 70's....lets roll.
